SkinDeep
05/09/2026 - 15/10/2026
The SkinDeep exhibition serves as a metaphor for the artwork as an object of multiple interpretations. The title invites us to look further, beyond the epidermic surface of the work, to unearth its deeper layers and meanings.
Curated by Flemish artist Cindy Wright, SkinDeep brings together the practices of Silvia B., Anya Janssen, Renato Nicolodi, Klaus Verscheure, and Cindy Wright under the roof of the Belgian Gallery.
With this exhibition, Cindy Wright ventures into curation for the very first time. Skin Deep stems from a desire to bridge the individual identities of each participant, while seamlessly communicating through curatorial practice what the artist instinctively expresses in images: « The whole process also made me réalise that I compose an exhibition in much the same way as I compose a painting. I'm always thinking about rhythm, contrast, balance and visual weight. »
The resonances within the exhibition rely on the pursuit of a complex harmony between works that communicate not only through similarity, but also through contrast. The five artistic languages unfold within the space without filters: « I wanted to create a context in which unexpected relationships could emerge. Sometimes the works reinforce one another, sometimes they create tension or quiet echoes, but together they open up new ways of looking. » Indeed, their proximity illuminates a permeable network of connections, as these distinct languages enrich one another. Consequently, the interplay of styles, mediums, oppositions, and tensions offers the attentive viewer a crossroads of perspectives, some entirely unexpected.
