le Hodey Béatrice

  • Born in 1959.
  • Lives and works in Brussels, Belgium

As a sensitive and introspective child, Béatrice developed a particular sensitivity to what happens "inside" people, objects, and places. Trained in brushwork at Ateliers 75, RHoK Academy, and with several professional painters, Béatrice enjoys interweaving paint and words on her canvases. Never hesitating to place poetry and biblical verses at the heart of her oil paintings, she also uses ink and walnut stain to evoke superb African trees, expressing the tragic plight of a suffering land. An encounter with old identity photos gave rise to a series of Armenian portraits staring intensely at the viewer. Her oil landscapes, always connected to the celestial, invite the viewer to cross the boundaries of the visible. The words that dwell within her often find their way into her canvases, becoming both images and underlying structures. They sustain and guide the artist's hand, shaping her brushstrokes in pursuit of what lies beyond the visible.
