Wouters Rik

1882-1916

A figurehead of Brabant fauvism, Rik Wouters leaves a bright and colourful work, far from the dramas that marked his life until his untimely death in 1916, at the age of 33. Rik Wouters dominated painting, sculpture and drawing.
Rik Wouters' art is above all an abundance of colour and authentic, simple, touching subjects. Through his visual language, the construction of his subjects and the luminous richness of his palette, he has developed an avant-garde style, having been associated with Ensor, then Cézanne and Renoir.
