Mellery Xavier

Xavier Mellery was a pupil of Jean-François Portaels at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels from 1860 to 1867.
In 1870, he was awarded a Belgian Prix de Rome.
He is the author of the cartoons of the forty-eight statues of Brussels craftsmen that decorate the Petit Sablon square in Brussels.
He was invited several times to the annual Salons of the Group of Twenty (or Les XX), an avant-garde artistic circle founded in Brussels in 1883 by Octave Maus.
